16 Jan 2023

The Go Blue TCH component kicked off in earnest as soon as Go Blue project offices opened in 9th January 2023. The component, led by the Technical Assistance to Camoes on the Implementation, picked from where it had stopped with the TCH grantees needs assessment to proceed for December 2022 holidays.
The outcome of capacity needs assessment meetings for grantees are meant to (i) support alignment of grantee projects with TCH Component objectives, Call for proposal requirements, and alignment with TCH RBME indicators and (ii) support modelling of resilient, replicable, and scalable interventions in close collaboration with county government officials.

These meetings are county specific and involve participation of the Technical Assistance, Grantees, and County officers/officials in charge of tourism and/or other related sectors. Below is the schedule for the meetings.

The series of these meetings started with Kwale County TCH grantees on 14th December 2022, followed by Kilifi County on 11th January 2023, then Mombasa County on 12th January 2023 and then Taita Taveta County on 13th January 2023. Tana River County and Lamu County TCH grantees capacity needs assessment is scheduled for a date to be confirmed before the end of January 2023.

About Tourism and Cultural Heritage (TCH)

Go Blue TCH specific objective is to contribute to advance inclusive employment in Tourism and Cultural Heritage cross-sector in JKP.
To achieve this outcome, the Action combines complimentary logic approaches to:
i)    planning of Tourism and Culture Heritage development through integrated governance together with national and coastal counties’ authorities, private sector and communities; and
ii)    Supporting the investment and employment creation in Tourism and Cultural Heritage cross-sector, by using a call for proposals to attribute grants to both public and private sector operators, minding women in particular and jobs for women, and by training young job seekers to standout and set standards as social community leaders and entrepreneurs.
The Action’s strategy is outlined by three high impact and complimentary outputs, combining both quick and lasting results with positive spillover effects:
Output 1 – JKP’s capacity to implement integrated governance of the complex social problem of planning for inclusive Tourism and Cultural Heritage development is increased;
Output 2 – Innovative small projects and businesses in Tourism and Cultural Heritage generate new employment and new dynamics in value chains cross-sector;
Output 3 – Young job seekers become transformative and inspiring social leaders and entrepreneurs through the flagship project Ubuntu Leaders Academy.
